Introduction (Sodium Benzoate CAS 532-32-1 )
Sodium benzoate is a preservative. It is bacteriostatic and fungistatic under acidic conditions. It is used most prevalently in acidic foods such as salad dressings (vinegar), carbonated drinks (carbonic acid), jams and fruit juices (citric acid), pickles (vinegar), and condiments. It is also found in alcohol-based mouthwash and silver polish. It can also be found in cough syrups like Robitussin. [1] Sodium benzoate is declared on a product label as 'sodium benzoate' or E211.It is also used in fireworks as a fuel in whistle mix, a powder which imparts a whistling noise when compressed into a tube and ignited.

Function and applications of Sodium Benzoate :
1.It is mainly used as a food preservative, and also used to make medicines, dyes, etc.
2.Used in pharmaceutical industry and plant genetic research, also used as dye intermediate, fungicide and preservative Antiseptic; antimicrobial agent.
3.Sodium benzoate is also an important acid-type food preservative. When used, it is converted into an effective form of benzoic acid. Please refer to benzoic acid for the scope and amount of use. In addition, it can also be used as a preservative for feed.
4.This product is used as a food additive (preservative), a fungicide in the pharmaceutical industry, a mordant in the dye industry, a plasticizer in the plastic industry, and an intermediate in organic synthesis such as perfume.
